Social Media Manager

Summary:
As the Social Media Manager, you’ll bring best practices to grow our social audiences and drive best in class engagement. You’ll be a core part of our small yet nimble marketing team focused on supporting pets and their people. And you’ll support our overall mission and primary programs including our national free microchip registry, local adoption and retail stores and other key initiatives.

In this role, you’ll help drive strategy and own the day-to-day management of all social media platforms, including planning, scheduling, creating, posting and analyzing content.  You’ll report to our Digital Marketing Director and closely collaborate with the marketing team and other departments. And with a steady supply of adoptable cats and dogs, you’ll be armed with great social engagement bait!  If you live and breathe social media, have tons of ideas for compelling content, growing engagement and want to put your expertise to work to help save animals, then this is the role for you.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Review and refine our social media strategy to help grow our social audience and drive engagement
     
  • Manage the day-to-day execution of social media, including scheduling, posting and community management on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube, for Michelson Found Animals and our local Adopt & Shop platforms
     
  • Create and manage the content calendar to plan and optimize content for each platform, collaborating with marketing team (and other departments) to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and both national and local marketing initiatives
     
  • Serve as community manager across all platforms, including monitoring and responding to consumer comments, reviews and complaints, in accordance with brand and consumer care protocols
     
  • Concept, write, create and post daily content
     
  • Create best in class visual content (videos, photos, GIFS, etc.). Shoot in store and other locations and recruit/curate content from employees, volunteers and/or other photographers
     
  • Develop and execute paid social (primarily Facebook) to support key initiatives and drive optimization by testing new targeting, messaging and other variables. Analyze performance and make insightful recommendations
     
  • Develop bi-weekly analytic top lines and monthly reports
     
  • Develop deep understanding of MFA mission, programs and brand voice
     
  • Monitor category and competitive environment for content ideas; stay current on social media trends, emerging platforms and best practices
  • Brainstorm, identify and manage potential third party content or tentpole event partnerships such as Buzzfeed, The Dodo or other high profile brands and/or influencers
     
  • Collaborate with marketing team, other departments and agencies
     
Key Competencies
  • Deep understanding and passion for the social media landscape
     
  • Successful track record using best practices to build social audiences and engagement, including community management and influencer outreach
     
  • Strong writing skills with proven ability to create engaging, impactful content in brand voice
     
  • Photography/videography experience, ideally previous experience with animals
     
  • Experience with paid social media strategy
     
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
     
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
     
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, with the speed and efficiency required in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
     
  • Experienced with social analytics, listening/scheduling tools as well as WordPress or similar CMS
     
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
     
  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite, including PhotoShop, a plus
     
  • Experience in animal welfare or pet products/services a plus

Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field preferred
     
  • Minimum 4 years social media experience  
     
  • Willing and able to work outside traditional 9-5 hours to capture content and support events in our stores and other locations, as needed
     
  • A love of pets and comfort interacting with them
     
  • A commitment to the mission and organizational values of Michelson Found Animals
