About the Job:
This position is responsible for supporting the culture of Found Animals within a retail and adoption program called Adopt & Shop.  This position reports to the General Manager of Adopt & Shop.  This is full-time position and is based in animal-friendly Culver City, California. This position requires working evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Update Adopt & Shop goal tracking board weekly.
  • Stay informed with what is going on at Adopt & Shop, through the communication tools provided within the store.
  • Willingness to ask questions and seek additional information either through Found Animals or independent research.
  • Watch for and recognize safety/security risks and communicate them effectively in order to prevent injury/theft.
  • Maintain a clean, well groomed appearance that represents our brand well and is welcoming to Pet Parents.
  • Direct, train and provide leadership for volunteers while working in close conjunction with the Volunteer Management Team.
  • Proactively seek solutions to challenges at Adopt & Shop and share with other store Management.
  • Enforce all company policies, procedures and directives consistently and  effectively.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to the vision, mission and core values of Found Animals Foundation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Cross train in other A&S roles and perform duties as assigned.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
  • Rarely lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

Required Experience/Education:
  • High school diploma or greater.
  • 1-3 Years of shelter/rescue experience required. Prefer successful track record in adoption training, problem resolution, and daily pet care and cleaning.
  • 1-3 Years of experience in animal behavior and/or animal medical needs. Prefer understanding of general dog/cat behavior and common solutions, general shelter medicine and common illnesses and the ability to speak to adopters regarding these issues.
  • 1-3 Years of retail experience required, preferably in pet retail.
  • Must have reliable transportation and flexible schedule.
  • Must be a team player with strong customer service skill set.
Retail Management:
  • Provide leadership to staff and volunteers, ensuring daily tasks are completed.
  • Direct, train and provide leadership for staff and volunteers while working in close conjunction with the Volunteer Management Team and the General Manager.
  • Foster a positive, fun, and safe environment for staff and volunteers by creating a strong culture of communication and teamwork.
  • Create a focus on training R&A staff on common medical and behavior issues and how to best address them to adopters.
  • Be the first point of contact for adopters seeking assistance with their new pet after taking them home. This includes, but is not limited to sending out adoption follow-up emails, scheduling training sessions, and answering general adopter questions.
  • Be the first point of contact on creating adoptable pet bios and media kit photos for our website and in-store use and training volunteer groups to do the same.
  • Providing superior and memorable customer service to every potential adopter that visits Adopt & Shop.
  • Actively promoting adoptions and encouraging adopters to take advantage of our on-site services and training current staff on sales techniques.
  • Learning about the personalities and traits of the adoptable pets in our care in order to sell their great qualities to prospective adopters and sending out quick-glimpses for all staff weekly.
  • Being creative and sharing innovative ideas about methods to reach adopters and doing more adoptions.
  • Assisting adopters to select the most appropriate toys, food, training tools, etc. and up-selling and cross-selling whenever possible and training staff on adoptable specific products.
  • Communicate with the team regarding store performance to goals.
  • Open and close cash registers, perform tasks such as counting money, balancing cash drawers, and preparing deposits.
  • Replenish collateral, as needed.
  • Maintain a clean environment by fronting and facing merchandise, dusting shelves/counters and keeping all kennels appropriately labeled.
  • Proactively seek solutions to challenges at Adopt & Shop. Resolving issues with customers and escalating when appropriate.
  • Support the development of associate's sales techniques to maximize sales.
  • Effectively communicate with our adopters about animal welfare and the Foundation’s mission. 
  • Assist with strategic planning and reporting.
