Animal Care Associate

Michelson Found Animals Foundation is an independently funded nonprofit that works to achieve a single goal:  find the big ideas that help reduce the number of pets euthanized in shelters each year. We are a well-funded startup organization that takes pride in bringing together great minds from diverse backgrounds in our mission to reduce shelter euthanasia.  Our culture and work environment set us apart from traditional nonprofit start-ups and inspire our talented team to create innovative ideas and solutions to complex programs and initiatives. Our animal-friendly, creative office suites are located on the Westside of Los Angeles.

Duties:
  • Direct, train and provide leadership for volunteers while working in close conjunction with the Volunteer Management Team.
  • Foster a positive, fun, and safe environment for volunteers by creating a strong culture of communication and teamwork.
  • Take on a diverse range of responsibilities in regards to volunteer growth opportunities through program development, including but not limited to leadership roles for volunteers, volunteer recognition, etc.
  • Provide world class care to all pets within our care (with the help of volunteers), which is to include but is not limited to the following:
    • Kennel Cleaning (scrubbing and hosing down kennels, carriers, play areas, drains, etc.)
    • Prevent the cross-contamination of germs between animals to keep the adoptable animals as healthy as possible
    • Administering Medication (as needed)
    • Socializing Animals
  • Consistently achieve department goals.
  • Watch for and recognize safety/security risks and communicate them effectively in order to prevent injury.
  • Assist vets with assessments and administering medications.
  • Take on a diverse range of responsibilities in regards to volunteer growth opportunities through program development, including but not limited to leadership roles for volunteers, volunteer recognition, etc.
  • Willingness to ask questions and seek additional information either through Adopt & Shop or independent research.
  • Stay informed with what is going on at Adopt & Shop, through the communication tools provided within the store.
  • Proactively seek solutions to challenges at Adopt & Shop and share with Store Management.
  • Cross train in other A&S roles and perform duties as assigned.
  • ​ Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Animal care / handling experience.
  • Knowledge of dogs and cats as companion animals and the ability to recognize change in an animal’s health or demeanor.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare and cat health issues.
  • Comfortable handling cats and dogs of all sizes and breeds.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, mission, vision and values of Found Animals Foundation.
